Sunday in the City!

Well...Today I went on an adventure. First, I got up and decided I really wanted to go to church...I know so unlike me! So I get up and get ready, and about have a breakdown and want to punch my hand through the wall because my roommate is unbelievably annoying (that will be another post) And so I got ready and I wasn't 100% sure what subway line to take so I figured I would take it up to 34th and then from there I would just take a cab and then see for sure which subway station was close and which line to take. So I tell the driver where to go, and we start driving and driving, and get stuck in some traffic so we jot over a few streets to Amsterdam and then drive uptown, and I start looking at the street signs and realize that we are WAY past 65th...and we are actually approaching 133rd!!! Yeah...I think he heard me wrong or something and was heading to 145th?? maybe? I dunno, so I tell him to just let me out on the corner of 133rd and Amsterdam...and at this point I am thinking to myself...Great Whit, you are in HARLEM!! WAY 2 GO!! So I have no idea where a subway station is, and I had seen maybe 1 other cab....so luckily a cab had just dropped some people off and I was able to hail him down. This time I told him a simple address, and VERY clearly Central Park West and 65th please!! (on they way i spotted a great farmers market on Columbus which I must check out sometime!) So he lets me out, and I look down the street and low and behold, the church is just where I thought it would be (its the YSA ward inside the temple complex) and by this time it was about 1:40ish and sacrament meeting was soon to be over, and I was really quite bummed. But I wanted to go over to the park anyway since I was up there, so I had taken a book and some flats to change into, so I go and find a bench in the shade, and start reading my book (The Mourning Dove: A story of love by Larry Barkdull. My mamma gave it to me to read and I read the whole thing in the park and let me say it was one of the best books I have read in a really long time. I highly recommend reading it!) A couple hours later, I had finished and got up and walked around the park a bit, and let me tell ya, it was PACKED with people. I took my time and meandered over to 5th Avenue and looked at all my stores that I can only dream that one day I will be able to actually buy something instead of just looking. Then I just took my time walking 5th and then I jotted over to Avenue of the Americas, and they had the whole street shut down for a little market thingy which was very convenient! I shopped around a little and got a cute bag! Then I headed over to Times Square, and it was packed as usual but this time they had a whole section blocked off (more than the "new times square" section) for people to watch the broadcast of the Tony Awards). So I got on the train and headed home, and when I get there to my surprise my roommate is fast asleep, with the AC OFF at 7:00!! Ya, I'm not joking. (one day when I really need to vent I will write a post about my two roommates, and yes we are in the same room...and sharing a bathroom...and just thinking about it is driving me insane!!!) So now I am waiting to see if I am going to head up the the East Village and say hi to Kris and Danny (some family friends) and Linda (from the Hat Shop), and waiting to see if I hear from NYC boy (aka Scott) to maybe go to a movie, I dunno.

As far as my internship goes, let me tell ya...they are thinking of maybe a reality show...and we have all the drama you need! JK It is actually REALLY cool. Just being there makes me feel like even though I am tacking on labels or running uptown to pick up dresses from Conde Nast, or running to Staples, I am special! haha I still kind of feel like the odd man out, but things are getting much better and I am hoping this week everyone will stop looking at me like "WHO IN THE H*** IS THAT?" haha It has defiantly been an adjustment for me, which I expected somewhat, but I am usually not one to necessarily hold to my Mormon ways, but just the nature of discussions and language is really different, even for an office. It's nothing I can't handle, but just a little different. But looking back on the past week now, it really wasn't that bad! I am interning with an actual designer, and I have actually met him!! How many people from Farmington, Utah can say they have done that?! And I just have this reassuring feeling that there are going to be great things that are going to come of this!!

After being here a week, I can now say I truly feel like a New Yorker, although some people have asked me where I'm from. (I guess cause I am always saying sorry, and please and thank you, and excuse me, and just being generally nice) But people have stopped asking me if I want to go on tours or see shows and stuff like that, and I am getting the subway thing down!! Yeah!! So I am hoping that by the end of the summer I will feel 110% like a New Yorker and I will be able to navigate this place with my eyes closed!!

Well that was super long, but what can I say!

And now for some pictures!!
